The National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa’s hand over of R10 000.00 to Mustadafin’s  Skills Development Programme.

Awqaf SA Donors Making a difference...

Today marks a significant milestone in the history of how we as a Muslim community of South Africa allocate and direct our sadaqah (donations). The National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa handed over a cheque of R10 000.00 on Thursday 08 December 2005 to the Mustadafin Foundation for their Skills Development Programme which is run in various "townships" in and around Cape Town - including Khayletsha and  Mitchells Plain. The money is part of the first returns that Awqaf SA received from its  Waqf investments. The waqf fund was started in 2000 and the community is continuously encouraged to make donations to this fund as a long term sustainable charity base. As the concept of Waqf dictates, the principal Waqf amount stays intact but the return on the investment is used for community development projects. As part of this particular collaboration, between AWQAFSA and Mustadafin, the Mustadafin foundation will utilise the grant  a skills development programme in Khayaletsha, Mithells Plan and other poverty stricken areas in and around Cape Town. The programme focuses primarily on developing women and empowering them with skills so that they may become self sufficient entrepreneurs.

The National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa is an independent non-profit organisation founded for the social, economic, political, educational, intellectual, moral, religious, and spiritual empowerment of Muslim and historically disadvantaged communities. It aims to contribute meaningfully towards the growth and development of post-apartheid South Africa through the initiation and support of strategically focused and sustainable community development and poverty alleviation projects through the establishment of Waqf.

The institution of Awqaf, - The Strategy for Change and sustainable development, stands to benefit the Muslims, the poor, and historically disadvantaged in South Africa.

We are proud of donors who have contributed to the waqf fund. Rewards for this empowerment project is dedicated to them.
